SEATTLE, Nov. 16, 2021 Rad Power Bikes released the following statement in response to the signing of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill:

“The Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill provides sorely needed investments to increase adoption of safer, cleaner forms of transportation,” said Mike Radenbaugh, CEO and Founder, Rad Power Bikes. “The health of our planet and communities depends on transportation that is safe, energy-efficient, affordable, and accessible for all. This cannot be achieved by cars alone—walking, biking, and public transport must be accounted for in our infrastructure plans.”

The inclusion of research and funding for alternative and active forms of transportation in the Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill marks a historic investment to improve safety and access of roads for all that use them, including pedestrians and cyclists. In particular, Rad applauds the following provisions of the Infrastructure Bill:

  • Codifies the three-class electric bike system in federal law for the first time
  • 60% increase in the Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP)
  • $1 billion investment, over five years, to develop new active transportation programs
  • Requirement for states to develop standards for Complete Streets, which prioritize safety for all that use the roads, not just cars
  • A vulnerable road user assessment to study how dangerous roads are for people traveling outside of cars

“The movement to get out of cars is already underway, which we see within our own Rad community as riders report replacing an estimated 338 million car miles per year with their e-bikes.” Radenbaugh said. “ If we make our transportation infrastructure safer for all forms of transportation, including ebikes, we can pave the way for more people to have access to a variety of clean and affordable options. This bill ensures that our roads are built for all of us.”

“Ebikes are essential to building healthier communities, from reducing pollution and traffic to providing riders with a daily form of exercise,” Radenbaugh said. “It's my hope that as these infrastructure programs roll out, cities and states recognize the importance of including ebikes in their plans to build an all-inclusive transportation ecosystem that promotes safety, clean air, and accessibility.”
